myspace is being queer (as usual when you need it), so i came here to give a little update.
we are in california right now...i can't believe we're so far from home, it still trips me out, especially when i go outside to smoke and check out the scenery behind kathy's house. the house next door has a banana tree in their back yard, and there was some loud tejano music being played a little while ago from somewhere back there...
getting here was..........interesting, to say the least. it really wasn't as bad as i was anticipating, but there were moments where it was almost there. hahaha. we had to change planes in memphis, so the first flight was only a bit over an hour. julian hated having to give up big bird for the five seconds it took for him to go thru security, but the process was relatively painless. our seat assignments weren't together, so we had to trade with like 3 people just so we could sit together, and the plane was completely full and completely crowded. i managed to keep jx occupied for almost the entire flight with this yellow squishy ball toy.
then once we got to the airport in memphis julian decided to go haywire, running around, not wanting to sit in the stroller, pitching a fit when daddy went to the bathroom and left him all alone with mommy in the big bad memphis airport. thankfully it was only an hour layover, so we found a quiet corner and let him run up and down the hallway until it was time to get onto the second plane.
the second plane wasn't nearly as small, and it wasn't completely full, so we only had to trade seats with one person in order to all sit together. this time since the flight was so long we didn't make him sit buckled in his seat the whole time...he shifted back and forth between mommy's and daddy's laps quite a few times. kept mostly occupied with the surprise toys we'd picked up from the dollar tree a couple of days beforehand. the flight seemed like it took FORRRREEEVVVVEERRRRRR....
then once we arrived at lax it was like.....uhhhh......where do we go now? that place is freakin' HUGE. but we met up with kathy and stephanie and all was right with the world. we had made it to california, all safely intact. dave was high from anti-nausea pills, but we were all intact.
today we went to santa monica pier, which was beautiful. the ocean goes on for miles and miles and miles, the weather was good (a little chilly with the wind, but very nice), and the water was awesome. after the initial trip of feet-wetting julian was all about the waves, just like at lake michigan. he'd wait for them to come in and then declare "here it comes!" and ever since he's been repeating "go to the beeeeeeeeeach" over and over in a high pitched voice.
we walked around santa monica pier for a while, i took tons of pictures, and dave and i rode a little roller coaster to get a good view of the coast. lovely. julian got a bit cranky after that. he wanted to run around by himself in the gigantic sea of people, and got miffed whenever anyone tried to hold his hand or make him stay put. my fault cos i had forgotten the stroller at kathy's house. when dave and i were on the roller coaster all i could think of was how extremely goddamned far away from home we are right now. and while the beach was beautiful, the sky, and the mountains behind everything... the warm water that sprayed salt all over my glasses... watching my little boy playing in the pacific ocean and feeling the sand under my feet... i was still really, really glad i live in indiana and not here, hahaha... there are tooooooo many people here! and toooooooo much fuckin TRAFFIC!! it took hours to get home from santa monica. steph fell asleep in the car.
and speaking of steph............she is in full on beach-ball-belly mode. that kid is coming in a matter of weeks, folks. i'm guaranteeing it right now...she will NOT go to her due date! DEEE-CLARED. her graduation is tomorrow nite which means at some point i gotta hop in the shower and shave the nastiness off of the legs.
today has been good and tiring so i'm sure yayhoo will sleep like a rock, just like last nite. all this stimulation is making for some odd sleeping patterns for him, but at least he slept, you know? he is a little homesick already though...this morning he got down off of the couch, looked at me and said, "i go home now?" and for about an hour kept saying, "go home?"
soooooooooooooooo..........i don't know what else to say, so i guess i'll go out back and have another smoke. steph took julian to her boyfriend's house behind here to play with his nieces and nephews. they were here this morning and jx was eating up having other kids around.
tomorrow's steph's graduation, like i said, and friday we're spending the day in hollywood. saturday our flight isn't until late afternoon, so i'm hoping that maybe... MAYBE... we can go back to santa monica and actually get INTO the ocean, instead of standing at the edge and soaking the bottom half of our jeans.....hahaha. we'll see, we'll see.
that smoke is sounding good now.
i can't believe we are so far away from home!!!!!
